Alfredo’s Stockport – Nestled in the heart of the town’s vibrant and historic Little Underbank, the iconic Winter’s building has undergone a remarkable heritage refurbishment and transformation by Classic Building Group. Originally built as a jeweller’s and clockmaker’s shop, this landmark property has seen many incarnations, from retail outlets to various eateries. Today, it proudly stands as Alfredo’s Social — a stunning new Italian restaurant and bar fit-out — ready to welcome guests with its unique blend of history and modernity.

The Vision: Preserving Heritage, Embracing Modernity
Classic Building Group was tasked with a challenging yet exciting mission: rejuvenate this historic Stockport building through a sensitive and considered hospitality fit-out, while preserving its rich architectural character. The goal was to create a vibrant and contemporary destination for Alfredo’s Social, equipping it for a successful future in Stockport’s fast-evolving town centre.

Architectural Brilliance: A Seamless Blend of Old and New
Upon entering Alfredo’s Social, guests are greeted by a meticulously crafted interior that reflects both heritage and innovation. Led by the renowned Paul Astill, the design and build team worked in close collaboration with Classic Building Group to preserve original features — including intricately detailed cornices and the beautifully restored shopfront, dating back to the building’s time as a jeweller’s haven. Every detail reflects the craftsmanship and precision that define our approach to commercial fit-outs in heritage spaces.

The interior layout retains the charm of the old building while introducing modern elements that ensure a contemporary dining experience. The exposed brickwork and original timber beams serve as a nostalgic nod to the building’s past, while sleek, modern fittings provide a fresh, inviting atmosphere. Using natural materials such as reclaimed wood and stone throughout the space harmonises with the historic character, creating a warm, welcoming environment.

Timepieces once marked the passage of time in the building’s former life as a jeweller’s and clockmaker’s shop. This intricate piece of machinery has been meticulously cleaned, and repainted, and is now prominently displayed in the restaurant, serving as a stunning reminder of the building’s rich heritage. The clockworks, with their gold and deep blue hues, form a striking visual centrepiece that captures the essence of the building’s history while seamlessly integrating into the contemporary aesthetic of the space.
